This is Lilly, the muddy and slightly grumpy mare who was my trusted steed on a trek along the river Mersey. So far this year I've walked along the river, kayaked down the river and now ridden along the river.

Tornado is a A1 Peppercorn locomotive who is a little bit special. All 49 engines in this class were scrapped after only 16 years service, despite being the most reliable and economical express engine on the mainline. Tornado was built from the original plans and completed in 2008. This weekend she was at the East Lancs Railway and I could not miss the opportunity to see her

Went on the BBC Manchester tour today and without doubt the most interesting aspect was the radio production side. These photos were taken inside the 'drama studio,' Most of the BBC 4 and Radio 7 dramas are recorded here and all space is utilised for making convincing sound effects. The stairs contain 3 different types of flooring - concrete, lino and carpet to replicate every type of footstep you might need. The door contains interior and exterior handles, locks and fastenings. The attention to detail and authenticity was astounding

Stanier Pacific Royal Princess Class 6201 “Princess Elizabeth” 1933. Her looks are deceiving. This graceful and beautiful engine is a real brute of a beast – capable of running non stop from Glasgow to London in less than 6 hours

As you can see, Transco are still on scene and the cordon means you can’t get very close to see the damage, but essentially the middle of the building with the clock tower is missing.

Amusingly, the Police suggested that everyone at the Brian Hore Unit wait in the Metropolitan pub round the corner until the area was safe.

This is the scene that greeted me this morning as I went to the Brian Hore unit. There have been 2 explosions, the loudest was around 9.30. I heard the ensuing commotion, but assumed it was the rats banging about at first. They can be surprisingly noisy, especially if you are half asleep.

This was taken on a walk around Lymm Dam with my family before we went for my Birthday lunch. Megan has changed so much since the wedding in October.  She is saying complete sentences now, so it’s much easier to enter her world and share the experience with her now.  We’re playing ‘Kick the ball to Gywnn’ which is a favourite of all involved.

This is the permanent location for this installation. 100 cast iron statues spread out over 3km of beach at Crosby nr Liverpool.
Despite it’s proximity to Liverpool Free Port, the expansive skyline and foreshore make this feel like an incredible wildnerness with easily the best sunset in the North West
