Changes in anti-smoking law start again

Croatian Times

Thanks to changes in anti-smoking law Croats can smoke again in bars from Friday (today) until April 2010.

The new anti-smoking law went into effect on 6 May and smoking ban lasted for 156 days.

But, according to the new changes adopted last month by the government all bars need to introduce better ventilation systems until 9 April 2010, and until than smoking is allowed.

All bars larger than 50 square meters will have to have separate smoking and non-smoking areas and better ventilation systems. No drink service will be allowed in smoking areas.

The bars smaller than 50 square metres could decide on their own whether to allow or not smoking, but also need to introduce special ventilation systems.

Health Minister Darko Milinovic asked all owners to take care of their guests health. But, he also promised the government will give extra benefit to those bars who decided to stay non-smoking.

Croatian logic strikes again. Ban smoking in bars when they improve the ventilation...
