The Aftermath

This is a photo I took today of the gas blast site. As you can see, Transco are still on scene and the cordon means you can’t get very close to see the damage, but essentially the middle of the building with the clock tower is missing.

Amusingly, the Police suggested that everyone at the Brian Hore Unit wait in the Metropolitan pub round the corner until the area was safe.

Gas Explosion at Withington Hospital

This is the scene that greeted me this morning as I went to the Brian Hore unit. There have been 2 explosions, the loudest was around 9.30. I heard the ensuing commotion, but assumed it was the rats banging about at first. They can be surprisingly noisy, especially if you are half asleep.

The argument that this is a designated play area is weakened by the ‘No Ball Games’ sign,  the ornamental planting which was done to stop kids playing on the green and the fact that as children, we were always told off for playing on the green.

It’s a planning cock up, but it could be far, far worse
